Our Mission
Dine About Mid Island is a volunteer-driven initiative dedicated to showcasing and celebrating the culinary diversity of the mid-Island region through our annual food festival. By partnering with a variety of local restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and beverage makers, we create a memorable multi-week dining experience that connects residents and visitors alike to the unique flavours and creative talent of our community.
Dine About Mid Island aims to support the local food scene, drive community engagement, and contribute positively to the regional economy. Our core goals are to:
- Boost Economic Growth: By increasing restaurant and beverage service patronage during the festival, we help improve cash flow for businesses during quieter months, leading to a more stable economy for local entrepreneurs and workers.
- Foster Community Engagement: Our festival brings people together to experience and celebrate the local food scene. It provides an accessible way for residents to connect with one another and encourages tourism to the area, benefiting other sectors like retail, entertainment, and transportation.
- Increase Brand Visibility: With the help of local media partnerships, we amplify the reach of small businesses, providing visibility that helps them thrive.
- Support Charitable Causes: Our festival includes partnerships with organizations like Nanaimo Hospital Foundation and Nanaimo FoodShare. Proceeds and donations collected at the festival launch gala support these charities, which directly benefit our community.
- Celebrate Culinary Creativity: We encourage local chefs and restaurateurs to showcase their skills and creativity through unique prix fixe menus and special offerings. This not only enhances the community’s dining options but also promotes innovation within our local food industry.
